BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The royal wedding reception of Prince Abdul Mateen Bolkiah and his wife, Dayang Anisha Rosnah, took place at Istana Nurul Iman, here, this morning.

The ceremony, steeped in tradition, started at 10.10am.

It was attended by royal guests, including the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, together with the Raja Permaisuri Agong, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah.

Prince Mateen and Dayang Anisha tied the knot at the Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque here last Thursday (Jan 11).

Mateen is the 10th child of the Sultan of Brunei, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah—the world’s longest-reigning monarch and once, the world’s richest man.

His bride is the granddaughter of one of his father’s key advisors who reportedly owns a fashion brand and a business in the tourism sector.

Mateen graduated as an officer cadet at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and represented his country in polo at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.

In recent years, he has played an increasing role in international diplomacy. The prince accompanied his father to the coronation of King Charles and Queen Camilla in May last year and Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in 2022.

Radio Television Brunei (RTB) previously reported that the royal couple’s wedding ceremony lasted for 10 days, beginning with the Royal Ceremony on Jan 7.

The solemnization ceremony was on Jan 11, while the highlight of the wedding ceremony is scheduled to take place at Istana Nurul Iman later today.

The royal dining ceremony will be held tomorrow (Jan 15), followed by the ceremonial recitation of the doa selamat and the closing ceremony with the guard drums on Jan 16.
