Istana Negara strongly reprimands any action by irresponsible parties who use or mention the name of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and the palace to spread fake news for either political or personal reasons.

Comptroller of the Royal Household Datuk Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said in a statement that they will closely monitor statements issued by several individuals, who used the king’s name and spread photos of him and Istana Negara through the WhatsApp application.

“This irresponsible action not only tarnishes the credibility of the king and the institution, but also raises concerns among the public and threatens the peace in the country from various angles.”

Fadil said Istana Negara will not hesitate to report the matter to the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for further action under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 if needed.

Fadil said Istana Negara advised the people not to panic and believe the fake news being spread.

“Istana Negara also advises the public not to share such news to avoid any action being taken against them.”
